High up in the Smoky Mountains, between thick patches of leafy trees and evergreens, lives a herd of horses that spend their days strolling through trails without a thought for the bustle of city life below. Up there, the Jayell Ranch horses carry tour groups along a 4-mile trail, showing them more than 260 acres of trees and mountain views.

In addition to friendly horses and breathtaking vistas, Jayell Ranch also hosts the longest zipline in the Smokies.

Atv were fun

Friendly Staff

I took my 8 year old son here for his bday celebration. We chose to do the horseback riding and atv combo. The wait was 2 hours long and they told us that it would be too late to take the horses out after dark which would have been our time after the wait. They said they would call me when it was time to ride. So we decided to do the Atv only. We went and ate and did a little driving around and then came back to the ranch 30 minutes ahead of our expected time. There was a group set up to get ready and ride, i asked the guide why they didn't call us and he said they were short staffed and that we could not ride with that group but he would find someone to take us out. We waited about 20 more minutes and then i found a staff member who found another member to take us out. His name was Avery, he had just gotten back in from a horseback ride with a group. He was friendly and sociable. My son and I were the only ones on the ride with him which was actually great because I already knew how to ride and we didn't have to wait for other ppl or go at a beginners pace. Once he confirmed that I knew how to ride our tour was kicked up a notch and we had a blast! We went thru mud puddles (yes wear clothes that you don't mind getting messy). We went in February and it was about 7pm so it was cold I would advise you to layer up if you decide to do after dark. Other than that we had fun and will definitely return to do it again.
